Dot Book Program
Since September, first-graders have brought home one library book each week. In mid-October, first-graders may select two library books. One will be a book of choice. The other book will be a dot book for students to read to an adult. Students may exchange books every day, not just on library special day.
Dot books are color-coded on the spine, according to Fountas & Pinnell reading levels (http://www.fountasandpinnellleveledbooks.com/). Each student may select a leveled/dot book. This dot color will change as students progresses in his or her reading proficiency.
Families are encouraged to listen to his or her child as the dot book is read. As each book is read, please write the title on the handout that was sent home. Have the student return the book to check out another. When 10 titles are read, sign the handout and return it to school. A different prize will be awarded to first-graders for each 10 books read, and a new handout will be sent home.
Please write only Granby Elementary Library dot books titles on the handout, even if the student can read the other library book selected. Only one dot book may be read each night. It should take a minimum of 10 school nights to complete the dot book handout.
When adults listen and encourage his or her child to read, it motivates students to set goals and enables him or her to build self-confidence. If there are any questions about this program, please email Mrs. Earl.
